Kilcoskan Cool Tree

Our lovely school is being made even better by the hard work of all the students. Every class is planting some trees/bushes to enhance our environment.

Here we are working hard at planting some daffodil bulbs. We made sure that the roots were pointing down into the ground to get all the lovely water. We also made sure to cover the shoot carefully with the soil! Hopefully we will have some lovely flowers coming up among our new trees very soon.

Here is our class planting our tree at the front of the school. Make sure to get your son to point it out to you on your next visit!

Lifting the tree into position.

Look at all those roots!

It was hard work packing all soil in on top of our lovely new tree!

Thanks to Stephen for our tree name "Kilcoskan Cool Tree."

Our South Pole adventure

We are learning lots of facts about the South Pole at the moment.

One of the animals we studied is the penguin. We learned that penguins can't fly. Penguins are good swimmers who love to eat fish.

Have a look at our lovely penguin art.

We are learning about the Blue Whale too. Why don't you ask your son about the facts he has learned about the Blue Whale.

1: It is the biggest animal on earth.
2: It's heart is the same size as a car.
3: It's tongue weighs the same as an elephant.

Maths Time

We are working on using money in our class at the moment. We are exploring the different coins. Here we are creating some coin rubbings.

We are exploring shape and space at the moment in our class. We had some fun creating some pictures on the whiteboard using different shapes.

Can you guess what we were trying to make?

We are also exploring 3D shapes in class. We took turns working with our folding 3D shapes.

Continuing with our shape exploration we cut out lots of different shapes and made some interesting pictures. Have a look at our hard work.

Mixing Colours

We experimented with mixing various primary colours to explore what secondary colours we could make. Have a look at the pictures of the children hard at work mixing the different paints.

We painted some lovely flowers using cotton buds. The catch is we can only use primary colours. So if we want any other colours we have to mix them ourselves!!

We are working on our 2D shapes at the moment. We drew a selection of shapes and using our primary colours painted them lovely colours.
