Cooking time

We really love cooking in our class.

A welcome from one of our students!

We will make several different dishes over the coming weeks.

For our last cooking session of the school year 2015-2016 we made Fairy Cakes, a firm favourite in our class.

We weighed out all of the ingredients, following the recipe carefully.

Then we mixed the butter and sugar with our electric mixer. We all like this bit but watch out for the noise!

Then we had to carefully beat the eggs.

Then it was the flour's turn to get added it! Be very careful doing this part as it can go everywhere!

Then it was time to put the mixture into the bun cases.

We were very good at waiting our turn.

Then it was baking time. With help we carefully put the bun tray into the oven to cook.

They were really tasty. We were very good and shared some of the buns with our friends in another class.

Today we had a treat and made some hot chocolate today.

We read the instructions carefully.

We spooned in some of the mixture.

Then mixed it well!

We all enjoyed the hot chocolate, some of us had mini marshmallows in it too!

Today we went back to our roots and made some traditional Brown Bread.

We all had fun measuring out our ingredients and mixing them all together.

We popped it into the oven and it turned out a lovely golden colour.

We all enjoyed the bread when it was baked....even though some of us thought it wouldn't be nice!

Today we made ham and cheese pastry sandwich. It is kinda like a croissant and even more tasty!

We rolled out the pastry.

Pricked the base so it wouldn't rise too much.

Layered the ham and sprinkled on the cheese.

Put a hole in the top to let out the steam.

Popped it in the oven and took it out 20mins later.

Very tasty!

Today we tired our hand at banana bread. A new one for us!

We measures some bread soda and added it to the flour.

Weighed out the butter.

Weighed out the sugar.

Weighed out the bananas.

Got the mixer ready!

Mashed the bananas up!

Stirred in the flour.

Before it was cooked.

The tasty finished product!

Yummy!

Today we made toasted cheese sandwiches. They turned out lovely.

It is all go in Kilcoskan these days, celebrating the 1916 rising, St. Patrick's day and Easter! We made some Easter Egg Nests today. They are a mixture of chocolate, butter and shredded wheat. Shaped into a nest and let to set in the fridge overnight.

Finished product!

Pizza bread time! Here are our ingredients.

First we spread the sauce.

Then after we sprinkled on the cheese we added pepperoni on if we wanted it.

They looked lively out of the oven.

Wash up time!

Yummy!!

A classic....fairy cakes today!

We measured out the ingredients.

And cut up the butter in small parts. So that we can mix it with the sugar easily.

We were very good helping each other with the mixing.

We popped the bun cases into the tin.

Then using a small spoon we put a small amount of out mixture into the cases.

We made sure to clean up after ourselves  when we were done.

We have them 20 minutes in the oven and they turned out lovely and golden brown.

When they were cool we put a little icing and sprinkles on them. Yummy!

Continuing with our healthy eating efforts for January we made smoothies today.

We had mixed berries ones to start then we made one with Apple too.

We added some natural yoghurt to make it even tastier!

Then we placed the beaker onto the blender.

As you can see we all loved our smoothies.

We made apple pastry roses today. They turned out really pretty.

We rolled out the pastry into long strips.

Then we spread apricot jam onto the pastry.

With help from the adults we cut the apple into thin slices.

We overlapped the apple on the pastry.

Then we rolled up the pastry into roses.

Then turned out lovely and crispy.

For the first cooking session back in 2016 we made "chocolate pastry twist". We rolled out the pastry.

Then spread chocolate sauce on the pastry. We said we might try stewed apple the next time.

Then we put small slits into the pastry and twisted the pastry into twirls.

It looked fab when it came out of the oven.

We had a Christmas themed cooking class today. We melted some white chocolate and covered marshmallows to make some Snowmen.

Once they were covered we decorated them with silver balls and sprinkles for his eyes and buttons.

Then we popped them into the fridge to harden.

We had some chocolate left over so instead of wasting it we made some cheerio buns.

Today we tried our hand at making scones. We had lots of fun kneading the dough and making a mess!

The finished product was polished off very quick. A good sign I say!

Hot chocolate was on the menu today. Just what we needed with the cold weather!

It was Savoury this week. We made cheese bread. It turned out exactly like the photo in the receip book so we were very happy with it.

Cookies were on the menu today.

Our mussels got a work out mixing the butter and sugar  together.

Then we added in the chocolate chips.

We put a small amount onto the baking trays.

They were incrediblely tasty!!

Today we made a new dish "egg in the nest." We cut out a small circle out of one slice of bread.

We separated the egg yoke from the White. We whisked up the whites and put them over the bread.

Then we put the yoke into the hole in the bread.

We popped it into the oven and cooked it until it was nice and toasty.

Treat day today! Time for the classic rice crispy treats.....yummy!

Today we made a staple that we can make at home, toasted cheese.

After which we all washed up our plate and glass.

Today was our chance to make Gingerbread People.

The ginger smelt strong but it we all had a sniff!

We went to the kitchen to mix our ingredients.

We had to put the mixture into the fridge to harden for a while. When it was ready we rolled it out and cut out the people shapes.

After they were cut out we put them into the oven to bake. When they were cooled we put a bit of icing on them to decorate them.

We were all fans of the Gingerbread People!!

Today we were very lucky to get to make scrambled eggs from eggs laid only over the road from the school.

We all did a great job cracking the eggs on the side of the bowl.

After which we all did a great job wisking the eggs to get lots of air into them.

We decided to have some toast with our eggs. We buttered our toast while we waited for the eggs to cook.

Finally we got to taste our lovely scrambled eggs. We all enjoyed the eggs.

We made chocolate brownies this week. They were delicious!

Here we are mixing

And the most important part eating them!!

We made pizza for our first cooking lesson.

We all took turns at rolling the base, spreading the sauce and sprinkling the cheese.

Doesn't the pizza look tasty and it's not even cooked yet!

We were right it was very tasty!
